I think the most interesting thing that I'm learning so far, is so many useful plants are considered "weeds". Of course everyone knows you can eat young dandelions for instance, but did you know that the root is good for the liver? The root and leaves are good for digestion and are packed with viatmins A,B,C,D and iron, potassium and more. From what I've read, some people even saute the flowers and eat them as well. Here's an informative video to watch.

Dandelion pesto--what a great idea! :)
ReplyDeleteLaurie, it does sound interesting!
ReplyDeleteRuth: FYI, your grandmother, Effie, contracted malaria as young girl back in the 1880's. She told of missing school for nearly a year. Her mom treated her with daily doses of "dandelion wine" instead of medicinal quinine. I wish I knew more of the particulars but it would be worth researching to learn more about the production and benefits.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing that, Dr. Fred. Dandelion wine, tinctures and infusions have amazing healing properties.
